Stool Culture Tests
A stool culture test is done to identify bacteria or viruses that may be causing an infection. More than 50 different kinds of bacteria normally live in the intestines. However, disease can result if large numbers of abnormal organisms (bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites) grow in the intestines. Certain types of viruses, fungi, or parasites can be identified with a stool culture.
