Meditation Class

When: Ongoing Monday evenings 7pm - 8:30pm
Where: 63 Vendola Drive, San Rafael, CA 94903
For information: (415) 479-2027

Cost: $15.00

This class introduces three types of meditation: shamatha (calming the mind while focusing on an object, such as breath), vipassana (insight), and open awareness (allowing everything equal focus through relaxation). Beginning with a 10 to 20 minute gentle "shamatha" meditation at the start of each class, which facilitates the group's cohesiveness, one is encouraged to relax cognitive perception so that a more body-centered ease of being can be experienced and cultivated.

This ease of being is discovered through the cultivation of becoming aware of the physical sensations and feelings within the body. Direct perception and experiential insight through sensation is practiced in the head, heart and hara (abdominal area) as well as all other areas of the whole body.

This meditation class is an invitation to relax from mental constructs and ideas in order to experience a more intimate connection with the body and moment to moment awakened presence. This will involve breathwork, movement, guided navigation into the body, dialogue and silent sittings. In our group gatherings, a loving, supportive and nurturing space is always offered for our practice. Our time together will be enjoyable, relaxing and will greatly support your psychological and spiritual development.

"I enjoyed each day, and feel that the focus on inward experience seems like rich territory for me. I have always had a high degree of energy awareness; I can sense energy in a room, in a person, etc., and am quite intuitive. Yet experiencing subtle sensations within the body is new terrain. I also became aware of how often I utilize images as part of the sensing experience. So, I was left with a curiosity about the degree to which I sense things through my mind. My favorite "takeaway" from this class is: You can depend on tenderness. "
